Why Study GREAT people, when you can model after EPIC PEOPLE!!

Oprah Winfrey, whose current net worth is 3 billion dollars, she’s 100% Self-grown/

Television personality, international celebrity, director/producer, actress, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. A true power player!

Fear of failure can be faced by getting more knowledge or a mentor on the area of life you want to succeed in,  Oprah Has some advice for you.

Here are the top 10 from the big O’s on creating an empowered brand:

  1. Do What Makes You Happy Don’t Force what Is a chore

Follow your passion.  Right since childhood Oprah liked sharing powerful messages with an audience, in fact she was nicknamed “The Preacher” at her local church.

Naturally, when she grew up she chose a field that allowed her to pursue her passion.  She  majored in communications at Tennessee State, started her career as a news reader for the Nashville radio station in 1971, and by 1984 she was hosting her own show, The Oprah Winfrey Show.  Today, her success in her as a talk show host has redefined how TV talk shows are conducted.

  1. There Are No Shortcuts to Success

The queen of daytime television firmly believes that you need to work hard to achieve your dreams.  She shares an example in her book, “What I Know For Sure,” about how at the beginning she was looking for an easy and quick way to lose weight.

Time and experience taught her that you should be willing for the work and preparation that goes into achieving success in the goals you’ve set for yourself.

She says that you should- “Make a Formal Commitment to Yourself.” A commitment is like: writing yourself out a contract to accomplish something by a specified time and signing it. How about Writing or programming a goal into your calendar… That’s a commitment too, So do it.

  1. Don’t Be Afraid of Failures

Fear cripples you; it gets in the way of your true potential. Think BIG, aim BIG, and then go for your goals with full force and energy. It’s sensible advice, if you don’t change your actions and focuses, you will be in the exact same place next year right around this time…

Oprah was thought to be “too emotional” for a job in media and faced some hurdles because of that at the start of her career but that did not stop her from trying again and again to find a role in media that would suit her better.  There are no failures if you keep trying only lessons to apply to the next round.

  1. Challenge Yourself

Do not stagnate.  Widen your horizons.  Do this by trying out new things.

Oprah did not limit herself to talk show hosting. She took up acting, producing, directing, launched OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

All of these things happened as she was not willing to just rest on her laurels and wanted to venture into new things. The greatest discoveries happen when you try something new and apply your knowledge from that experience to something you already do well.

  1. Taking Risks Pays

You will not have exponential growth unless you take chances.  Oprah could have stayed satisfied as with being a television personality, she was making the big bucks hosting “The Oprah Winfrey Show” but she decided to acquire the show from ABC.  This is how Harpo Productions, Inc. came into existence.

Under the Harpo umbrella she now has successful shows with other hosts. The Harpo brand allowed her to get into production, films, radio, retail business, publish a magazine, and to own a cable network. Try nothing new you better be comfortable because nothing will ever change.  PUSH YOURSELF to educated risks or YOU WON’T grow.

  1. Play to Your Strengths

When Oprah made her foray into daytime television she was nothing like the tabloid talk-show genre that was popular in those days. However she did not copy that form of hosting but stuck to her style which was more empathetic and she soon had a following larger than any in the history of television. You have gifts, realize them, find opportunities to implement them into moments–>project–>purposes–>careers. A speaker must find opportunities to speak, A Poet must find opportunities to write and share their innate thoughts.

  1. The Power of Giving Back

Oprah is philanthropist and contributes to many charities.  That is not all though, she makes sure that her fans feel valued by giving them thoughtful gifts.

Brand Oprah gains from this as her fans are also her customers and her connection with them grows stronger through such gestures. Taking the effort to make your customers feel special goes a long way in building loyalty. (Ellan Degeneres has modeled some of these habits). The perception of “giving back” is used by many organisations, it aids in the perception of the organisation or person being compassionate. Many people would rather adopt a brand or do business with friendly people that give back to their community and to humane causes.

“What I know for sure is that what you give comes back to you.”

― Oprah Winfrey

  1. Share Your Opinions

Oprah is not afraid to speak her mind.  She does so responsibly, never making any loose comments.  This is a very effective tool of becoming an influencer.

Her opinions on all things matter, be it politics, books, or even celebrities. Through Oprah’s Book Club she’s been able to connect even better with her audience, and it has created a new platform for her to become a game changer in the publishing business.

USA Today reported, “in 2004, Leo Tolstoy’s tragic 19th-century love story, Anna Karenina, hit No. 1 on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list after Winfrey embraced it.”

If you have a brand, make sure it has a voice, people that follow it/you will listen if you have established yourself as a credible source.

“Always take a stand for yourself, your values. You’re defined by what you stand for”

― Oprah Winfrey

  1. Promote other Talented People

When people know that have a network of other impactful people: this adds more value. If on your blog you often  interview experts and include them in your network, it affects readers perception of you. If you showcase Employees expert abilities, or suppliers amazing credentials:  this enhances your brand. NOW If You continute to bring more value to the table with the right following you become an authority. When an authority Shars other peoples talents (even products) they become a SUCCESS ENABLER. After developing the right following, youmay make people big (like the Dick Vandyke or Oprah Winfrey 😉 ) Having a network and promoting other WORTHY people helps you build authority, more credibility, Increases your audience… The List goes on!

Oprah has created icons through her production house and network.  These stars have gone on the become an extension of brand Oprah and their success adds to hers.

Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, Suze Orman, Rachael Ray to name a few, are all a part of The “Oprah Effect”

  1. Have an Exit Strategy

Know when to quit. There comes a time in every venture when you should call it quits. This should always be while you are still ahead of the game. Leave on a high note and  go out with a bang, take what you can from that project and apply it to the next venture.

She quit The Oprah Winfrey Show after 25 years of hosting it. She did it on a high note by announcing it before the last season. The finale went on to have the highest rating the show had received in 17 years. Leaving it at the right time ( at it’s apex) on the other projects Gives her that eternal star status,  No decline, only epic. She takes this momentun and applies this to all of her other projects,  This makes her even MORE desirable in all areas of influence.

“I love this show. This show has been my life. And I love it enough to know when it’s time to say goodbye. Twenty-five years feels right in my bones, and it feels right in my spirit. It’s the perfect number—the exact right time.”

― Oprah Winfrey

As Winfrey says- “My approach to living with purpose has always been to create the life I want, one conscious decision at a time.”

Be conscious of your next decision to Continue to create your ideal lifestyle.
