You know that lack of sleep leaves you feeling exhausted and demotivated so you do everything you can to make sure you get a good night’s rest however as soon as you hit the bed you’re wide awake!

Sounds familiar?

Well, most people face this problem and hence resort having a nightcap or some prescription medication which actually harms them and their ability to sleep naturally in the long term.

Sweet Sleep

There’s a simple and effective solution to help you sleep well night after night.  One that is not going to cost you much or cause you any harm.

Plants To The Rescue

Keeping certain types of plants in your bedroom can clean your environment and improve your sleep.

Brilliant, right!

  1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Laurentii’)

Now, don’t let the name scare you.  This plant only invites sleep and not snakes.  It converts CO2 into oxygen at night thereby supplying the air you’re breathing with more oxygen.

The NASA Clean Air Study found that it improves indoor air by removing the toxic agents benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene and toluene.

Interestingly, it is also known as mother-in-law’s tongue because of the sharpness of its leaves 😉

An easy-to-maintain plant, it should be ideally kept next to a window facing east, west, or north.

  1. Lavender (Lavandula dentata)

Studies show that lavender improves both the quality and quantity of sleep; the plant helps you fall off to sleep quicker, to sleep longer, and feel more well-rested when you wake-up.

What’s more, it helps lower your blood pressure, relieves pain, anxiety and stress.  This plant from the mint family has shown to have positive effects on crying infants by soothing them to sleep.

Place this plant next a window facing the south or you could also use artificial lights instead.

  1. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum ‘Mauna Loa’)

This is another plant that figured in NASA’s Clean Air Study due to its ability to clean the air of the toxins: benzene, ammonia, formaldehyde, toluene, trichloroethylene, and xylene.

As if that were not enough, it also humidifies indoor air which is good for your skin, keeps your nasal passages lubricated, relieve sinusitis, and alleviates snoring.

Doesn’t need direct sunlight.

  1. Golden Pothos (Epipremnum aureus)

The cleaners you use, adhesives, floor coverings, flame retardants, and other chemicals that go into the building of your home leave toxic vapours in the air.  The Golden Pothos is excellent for ridding your environment of these toxins.

As per a study conducted over a period of 15 years at the Parharpur office building in India, it was found that that this office centre- which had over 1,200 plants- was healthier than those office spaces that did not have any plants.

This GREEN building had lesser cases of eye irritation, respiratory ailments, headaches, lung impairment, and eye irritation.  Also, this meant lesser sick leaves by the employees working there.

This plant is fine with less light so find a spot in your bedroom that does not have bright light.

Invest in your sleep today! Buy these plants and begin having a wonderful zzzzzzz….
